A fascination with the processes, rhythms and cycles found within the natural world inspires my paintings more than anything. I am also drawn to the symbolism of circles and spirals, which find their way into my creations quite often. Within this context of rhythms and cycles, I am also deeply influenced by music and create my pieces not unlike the process of musical composition, focusing on rhythm, color and tone. I’m greatly affected by the music I’m listening to while I paint, and in addition to inspiring me, it helps me clear my mind, which in turn allows me to respond to the music purely and on a very gut level. The concept of automatic painting, also known as surrealist automatism, as it relates to creating paintings is also plays a role in many of my pieces.
I work primarily in watercolor and acrylic, and occasionally in oil.
